It was a sad farewell on Wednesday 30th March when our local residents gathered for the final IT Session this academic year. This has been so much more than an opportunity to learn how to use a computer but has become a great social event to look forward to each week. It was a friendly environment where residents could chat with student volunteers in addition to learning how to network online. Many residents set up their own email account and were communicating with family and friends online when they hadn’t done so, previously.
Others set up Facebook profiles, uploading photos and inviting their friends to join them. Tom set up a UCSU Community Facebook group and invited our residents to join the group and to keep in touch.
A link to the Community Allotment Blog was posted so the residents, some of whom also have allotments, can keep an eye on our progress and can comment on it too! Here’s the link… http://corkroad.wordpress.com
Certificates, designed by resident Myrtle Maxwell assisted by Volunteer Lauren Lloyd were presented to each resident attending the sessions. Nice design work, Myrtle, Thanks!
The tea and cakes went down a storm and we’re all looking forward to the next sessions starting…watch this space!
